Courage + truth + humility = nothing can stop me
These are the things that were inside my mind today.
Noise from little buggers
I was irritated. I did not get enough sleep – I got to bed late last night, and I was woken up early this morning by some NOISY LITTLE BUGGERS (my neighbor’s kids).
To make things worse, this was the second night in a row that I didn’t get the 8 hours I need. Getting out of bed, I just felt tired, angry, and sorry for myself.
Chunks of wisdom
I was just about to verbalize and blame everyone around me, when I remembered some of the things that brought me to truth during this week:
- an incredible video clip on gratefulness (thanks to Kedar for the link)
- an eye-opening reminder on how we tend to blame other people for everything
- some gentle words on humility
- my own thoughts on David
Humility and Truth
He was a young, scrawny kid, just a little older than those NOISY LITTLE BUGGERS.
How can a kid like you fight with a man like him? You are only a boy and he has been in the army since he was a boy.
He knew the truth. The truth was that Goliath was much stronger than him, and could kill him even if he was blindfolded and had one hand tied behind his back.
Humility is to think truthfully about yourself.
Humility, Truth and Courage
Most people tell the story of David killing Goliath like it was some supernatural event. My take on it is that it was nothing of the sorts.
David knew he was out-gunned. He knew he had to play it smart. He knew his only chance of defeating Goliath was to do it without giving the big guy even the smallest chance to get close. So…
… he picked up five smooth stones …
… giving him five chances to hit the man. What an interesting number. Just enough to say I may miss a few times, but little enough to say it’ll only take a few tries.
David knew the truth: he could kill Goliath, if he played it smart and kept his distance. David also had the courage, because the Lord prepared his heart by sending bears and lions across his path.
Just an in-between ponder on – what are the bears and lions God have sent across your path?
So in the true fashion of a man humble before God, with the knowledge of truth in his mind, and the spirit of courage in his heart…
… David ran out to meet Goliath and, reaching into his shepherd’s bag, took out a stone, hurled it from his sling, and hit the Philistine in the forehead.
If you’ve ever wanted to put a picture in your mind of what humility, truth and courage looks like, picture that.
Choosing Life
I hate old cliches so I’ll create a new one.
Take a bite from life everyday or let life take a bite from you.
I’m happy to say that today I positively slaughtered that little bear that came across my path.
Good luck with your bears and lions. May your mind be guided by humility and truth, and your heart be filled with courage.

“Humility is to think truthfully about yourself.”
This is a quote that I will have to commit to memory. I often don’t think about it that way.
Your blog is always a joy to read. It really puts things in perspective for me.
